Inland Lakes Snowmobile Club | Cheboygan Area Chamber

Our first feature for Cheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce’s Member of the Month was randomly chosen but couldn’t be a better fit for the season!  You can’t deny that this 2019 winter season has been ideal for those that love the snow!

Inland Lakes Snowmobile Club began in 1987 with a group of friends that had a passion for snowmobiling.  It is now a diverse group of 106 active members of all ages!

The club was formed to:

  • Stimulate and advance the general welfare and safety of snowmobiling
  • To serve the general interests of snowmobilers
  • To develop a fraternal spirit among local snowmobile and other winter sports enthusiasts
  • To provide a medium for exchange of snowmobile information

The Inland Lakes Snowmobile Club is an active group of volunteers that work with local grooming clubs to help maintain the trails in the fall by cutting back and removing brush along our trails.  They provide financial support to the the local grooming clubs as well as provide
recognition to our local volunteer groomers.

By helping to improve and help maintain our trails, we hope to make them the best trails in the State, which in turn will help spur the local economy by bringing snowmobilers from all over the State to Cheboygan county.

As a club, they enjoy doing weekly local rides as well as organizing rides to the Upper Peninsula and even the occasional Out West Trip.  For those club members who no longer snowmobile, they host a Game Night, Welcome Back Spring Dinner, Summer Picnic, Fall Potluck, a Volunteer’s Recognition Dinner, and a Christmas Party!

A favorite aspect of what the group provides is working with the local grooming clubs to improve our beautiful Northern Michigan trails.  They also like giving back to the community by ringing for the Salvation Army and picking up trash on their stretch of “Adopt a Highway”.

The best reach the Inland Lakes Snowmobile Club has found for their members is to create an annual snowmobile trail map and distribute them through our local supporters and throughout snowmobile shows across the Midwest.  Approximately 10,000 maps are distributed annually.

Members at Yellowstone National Park

Thank you to Tom Konkel, president of the Inland Lakes Snowmobile Club, for allowing us to showcase your club.  He states, “Our club is made up from folks not only from the Cheboygan, Emmet and Presque Isle county areas but we also have members from as far away as Ohio and Indiana. Both young and old, snowmobilers and non- snowmobilers, all with a passion for the love and the beauty of Northern Michigan. If this is something you’d be interested in, we would love for you to join us. Please check out our website at www.inlandlakessnow.org or email us at ilsnowclub@gmail.com for more information.”

The Inland Lakes Snowmobile Club’s love for being able to ride THE BEST SNOWMOBILE TRAILS IN THE STATE is evident and they appreciate the continued support from the local community.
